Tea from Rwanda - the land of a thousand hills

The world's favorite drinks have their roots right here in Rwanda.

Tea growing in Rwanda started in 1952 and it is one of Rwanda`s main cash crops.

Rwanda tea is grown on hillsides at high altitude (between 1,900 and 2,500 m), and on well drained marshlands at an altitude between 1,550 and 1,800m

Rwanda produces between 26,000, 000 - 30,000,000 kg of made tea from 14 tea factories established in all corners of the country. In addition there are other 3 tea factories in construction process.

Rwanda tea has gained enormous global acceptability because of its quality. Factors such as climate, abundant rainfall of 2m per year on average, Acidic soils of pH 4.5 to 5.5 contribute to its quality.

Due to the high-elevated area where Rwanda tea is grown, its strength, bright color, flavor and consistency in manufacturing as it is renowned all over the world as a superior beverage. Nature has endowed Rwanda with the best ecological conditions, making Rwanda Tea unique and consistent in quality. Over 72% of the cultivated area is situated in the high mountain areas.


The tea plantation is managed by farmers grouped in cooperatives, the factory possesses some of them as industrial block.
